Retro: Digital Watches

When I saw a friend wearing a CASIO digital watch back in Italy at Christmas time, it reminded me of my elder cousins who, when I was a child, used to compare models and show off monstrous mini-TV screens with a lot of plastic buttons on them. In my imagination they were very much the predecessor of the mobile phone, since they used to give the person who wore them the illusion of being in control of a lot of information through those fantastic miniature buttons. It was déjà vu; suddenly I was at dinner with friends where everyone was actually wearing a CASIO old school watch, comparing, advising each other on where to buy one and what colours they were planning to buy.

Once back in London, I didn’t spot any until very recently, when a man on the train attracted my attention with his sleek geeky look. Could I resist staring at the spectacle in spectacles? Certainly not. However, it was the wrist, screaming old school style that tickled my curiosity: he was sporting a black wristband old school CASIO. After recognizing it casually on the street I was convinced, the trend is officially back.
