L'Uomo Vogue on Rebranding Africa
My article on MFM
I was delighted with surprise when I found that L’uomo Vogue May-June issue was all about Africa.
Putting it in Ban Ki-Moon words – secretary general of the United Nations, who is also on the cover, “Africa does not need charity. It needs partnerships and investments.” Indeed, this issue of the Italian publication shows the efforts that fashion-related businesses are making towards that direction.
Looking up at the UK as a country where African talents are well represented, names such as Adrien Sauvage and Ozwald Boateng are praised for their creations. The former, as well as having recently opened a boutique in Maddox Street, is busy with collaborations with Dr Martens and planning a collection inspired by basketball. The latter, one of Made in Africa ltd founders, has ambitious plans to help the continent to develop a system of infrastructures. The most important project Made in Africa ltd is working on, is assuring that £200m are invested to build a railway from Lagos, in Nigeria, to Acra in Ghana.
